Illuminate - Thank you guys by StefanHuerlemann Illuminate - Thank you guys by StefanHuerlemann
This is my "thank you" piece for you guys. Thanks a lot for the 20.000 PWs, the many favs and also the 2 DDs. I've been here on dA for 2 years and it was an awesome time. I learned a lot of new stuff and I also met a lot of very nice people. I don't know what I'd do without you :D

So, just THANK YOU

WPs will come later

E: just mentioned that this is my 111th deviation :D yay

E2: some minor edits, contrast, colours, details, nebula and composition changed. Hope you like it

If you like my work, please don't forget to watch me ;)

I loved this piece soooo much, I just had to write a critique :)

The first thing I noticed about this was the abundance of colour, while this gives the piece lots of impact, it's also quite obvious that you have just brushed in some bits on 'colour' mode (where the two left moons/planets edges are closest, some parts of big left moon/planet's shadow etc.), you could fix this by going over them in colour mode with the original colour to either fade or completely remove the parts I mentioned.

The exploding planet (if that's what it is) looks good, but it lacks depth perhaps you could move some parts out from the center and paint in some thickness to the crust.

I have to say, your gas giants look amazing, although you should maybe get rid of the atmospheric glow on the back of the right one, they are very well made, textured etc. but where the rings on the right one go behind the planet they aren't don't actually fit the planets shape and overlap onto it etc. (btw I'd get rid of that asteroid)

The moon next to this gas giant looks good, and is well placed, but the shadow really needs some work, I suggest smudging it in a way that is perpendicular to the light source (ie. away from the light source) and blurring it a tad.

The big left galaxy looks nice and detailed, if a little overbright, I can't think of a way to correct this without just painting more details in.

Now for the foreground planet, although it is a completely different colour to the rest of the picture, it fits surprisingly well, it's well detailed and the atomphere is very believable, so top marks there

Well, I think I've nattered on for long enough now, so to summarize:
This is well made effective piece of space art with lots of impact and only a few, minor flaws, it has a good composition and a great, inciting colour scheme.

I'm looking forward to more works from you :)

/Tim

I see it between the exploding planet and the white-shiny thing. I don't know if it's supposed to be a galaxy or a black hole.

I donno, I just see a person

Very cool! My only real critique is that the rings on the one planet seem really weird, moving perpendicular to the planet's own axis.

hmm, maybe :D
actually, this piece is very far away from any realism you see. I wanted to create something shiny and colorful, nothing realistic. But I think I'll replace it with a normal moon.... But not now^^ I just did a new version and loaded it up :D

mmm.....it's also good, but I liked the previous version more(anyway I have on my desktop :D). This work has many objects, so that making two colors (purple and blue)primary was a grand idea.

awesome piece man. terrific way to say thanks and give back! :dummy:

one small critique though, if i may: the small moon to the 'right' of the gas giant above its rings looks like it's casting a shadow on them, which is good, however it looks like its casting from the wrong angle against the light, as well as not being skewed into perspective since the shadow is being cast on the rings

ooh very nice changes! everything looks very painterly now (did you lighten the piece?), its quite lovely. and yes that's exactly what i meant on the rings. fantastic work! :la:
